The hike to the "Bottoniera del 2002" (2002 Buttonhole) is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and disturbing eruptions on the northern slope of Etna. From both a scenic and educational perspective, it will leave you with an unforgettable memory. Starting at an altitude of 1800m, we climb towards the 1911 Buttonhole, reaching an altitude of 2100m.

The excursion to the Central Crater of Etna can be done starting from the southern slope - Rifugio Sapienza. First by cable car and then by 4x4 Jeep to an altitude of 2900m, then by trekking to the Summit Craters, skirting the southeast crater until reaching the summit of Etna.

The sunset excursion to the "Volcanological Observatory" of Pizzi Deneri is currently the ideal place to admire the "ONGOING ERUPTION"! You will be able to witness the explosive activity of the South-East Crater, the effusive vent along its northern flank, and the resulting lava flow.

The Etna 3000m excursion takes you to an altitude of 3000 meters, starting from the arrival of the cable car at 2500m. After using the cable car from Rifugio Sapienza (1900m) to 2500m, the trek begins toward the Barbagallo craters, formed during the 2002 eruption, located just below the summit.

Tips Useful

Is it always possible to reach the summit craters of Etna?

It's not always possible to reach Etna's summit craters. Mayors issue ordinances regulating access to the summit areas.

Is it possible to visit Etna with children?

Depending on the children's ages, you can choose from different excursions. We recommend the "2002 Buttonhole" or the excursion to the Sartorius Craters (particularly suitable for families).

How to reach us:

"Independently" with your own car or using public transport, or with a transfer service with pick-up directly from your hotel.
