Serra of the Concazze and Path of Serracozzo

The excursion to the Serracozzo cave is one of the most fascinating treks that can be made on Etna.
During the trek it will be possible to observe the vastness of the crater depressions, impregnated with sulphates, from which the great part of the explosive activity is expressed, arousing in visitors a feeling of arcane power that other few places in the world are able to transmit.

Northern Etna – Serra delle Concazze and Grotto of Serracozzo

The excursion starts from the square in front of Rifugio Citelli at 1740 m.
The path in the initial part will develop inside a wonderful forest consisting of unique plant species of its kind, such as birch (betula aetnesis – an endemic species of Etna). The vegetation will be interrupted by channels smoothed by the melting waters of the snow, after about 1 km and a half you will reach a valley that houses the Grotto of Serracozzo (1851 m), a lava flow tunnel created during the 1971 eruption. Subsequently uphill you reach the panoramic point called Belvedere di Serracozzo 2100 meters from which you can admire the Valle del Bove and the summit craters.

The descent will take place inside sandy canals up to the starting point.
